Moving down to Woodlands Central

Moving down south, after curving between HDB blocks and following Woodlands Drive 91 and Woodlands Street 81, the line emerges to Woodlands central. Being an interchange station with the North-South Line, some modification works are necessary at the existing station before construction can begin proper on the Thomson Line station and tunnels.

The most noticeable development thus far is the construction of two replacement sub-stations under the North-South Line viaducts. The existing sub-stations will be demolished once migration of equipment and cabling to the new facilities are completed. This would allow space for the construction of the paid transfer linkway and a new entrance to the underground station on the Thomson Line.

Besides the construction of the new sub-stations underneath the existing elevated MRT viaducts, a large portion of the walkway across the open field on the south side of the station has been cleared. The area has been hoarded up and equipment for bored piling brought on site as well.

Where once a covered walkway cut across an empty field to the HDB blocks opposite, now lies a construction site.
In the foreground is where a ventilation shaft will pop up in future. A subway link to the bus interchange will
jut out from this side of the station box as well.

The bare remains of the since demolished linkway can be seen.

At different sites surrounding the station, works are underway to divert utilities to facilitate the smooth construction of the station. More works are expected as the construction of the station ramps up in the coming year.
